Resize Image to 50 KB Online — Free & Instant
Get an image under 50 KB by lowering quality first and stepping dimensions down only when quality alone can't reach it.
About Resize Image to 50 KB
Despite the name, this tool does not ask you for pixel dimensions — it reduces file size, which is what a '50 KB' requirement actually measures. Encoder quality is binary-searched first at your image's existing dimensions; only when quality alone cannot reach 50 KB does the engine step the dimensions down, in bounded passes of 50% to 90% at a time with a hard floor of 64 px on the longest side — and the result reports the new dimensions whenever that happens, so a changed picture is never a silent one. Photos around 1000 px on the long side usually reach 50 KB on quality alone; a big phone photo will be scaled, and the result will say to what size. Opaque images come out as JPG, transparent ones as WebP so the transparency survives, and every result is compared against your original — if re-encoding can't do better, you get your original file back untouched. For exact output dimensions, use the Image Resizer instead. All processing runs in your browser; your photos never leave your device.
Questions
Does this change my image's dimensions?
Only when it must. Quality is lowered first at the original dimensions; dimensions step down in bounded increments only when no quality can reach 50 KB — and the result reports the new width and height whenever that happens.
What does 'resize to 50 KB' actually do?
KB measures file size, so this page runs a target-size compressor: a binary search finds the best encoder quality at or under 50 KB, and bounded downscaling engages only as a last resort. You don't pick pixel dimensions here — the Image Resizer does that.
Which images reach 50 KB without a downscale?
Roughly anything around 1000 px on the long side or smaller — at those dimensions a quality level under 50 KB exists. Larger phone photos will be scaled, and the result will say to what size.
Can I set a different KB number on this page?
Yes — 50 KB is just the preloaded default. The size field takes anything from 10 KB to 10,240 KB, and there are one-tap presets for 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, and 1 MB.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Transmute processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device — there is no server, no upload, no cloud processing.
