Whether you want to turn a presentation into individual slide images, extract pages from a brochure for social media, convert a scanned document into image files, or create thumbnails of a multi-page report, this tool renders every page of your PDF to a high-quality image using PDF.js. Choose between JPG output (smaller file sizes, ideal for photos and general use), PNG output (lossless quality, perfect for text-heavy documents and graphics with sharp edges), and WebP output (smaller still than JPG at similar quality — in browsers that can encode WebP, such as Chrome and Edge; Safari cannot, and the tool says so plainly instead of producing mislabeled files). Adjust the quality slider and scale factor to control the resolution of the output — increase the scale for crisp, high-DPI images suitable for print or retina displays. Download individual pages one at a time, or download all pages at once for convenience. The rendering engine faithfully reproduces text, vector graphics, embedded images, and complex layouts from the original PDF.
Questions
What resolution are the output images?
By default, pages are rendered at 2× scale for crisp output. You can adjust the scale to get higher or lower resolution images.
Can I choose PNG or WebP instead of JPG?
Yes. Toggle between JPG, PNG, and WebP output. PNG is lossless and larger; JPG and WebP are smaller with adjustable quality. WebP needs a browser that can encode it — Chrome and Edge can, Safari cannot, and the tool shows a clear error there rather than mislabeling PNG bytes as WebP.
How do I convert just one page?
Every page is rendered. The deck shows one tile per page — click a tile to save that page on its own, or use Download all (ZIP) to take the whole set. There is no page-range filter on this tool; to work with a subset, run Split PDF first and convert the extracted file.
Why does Download all give me a ZIP instead of separate files?
Browsers throttle a burst of programmatic downloads — typically only the first few files would actually save. Bundling every page into one ZIP avoids that, and the archive is named after your PDF, so report.pdf comes down as report-pages.zip.
Why do I get a 'page too large' error at high scale?
At 4× a physically large page can exceed the browser's canvas limits, and the error tells you the exact pixel dimensions it tried to render. Lower the scale and convert again — 2×, the default, is already crisp for screen use.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Transmute processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device — there is no server, no upload, no cloud processing.
