About PNG to PDF

PNG screenshots, diagrams, and exports become a single PDF here, with nothing lost along the way. pdf-lib decodes each PNG and repacks its pixels into the document — for 8-bit PNGs, which is what virtually every screenshot and export is, every pixel value survives exactly; a rare 16-bit PNG is reduced to 8 bits per channel, and the result says so whenever that happens. An alpha channel is carried through as a soft mask, so transparent regions stay transparent in the file and appear over the page's white background in virtually every viewer. Upload one PNG or many, drag the thumbnails to set the page order, and pick a page size: A4 or US Letter center each image inside a 40-point margin without ever enlarging it past its natural size, while fit-to-image makes each page exactly as large as its image. The conversion happens entirely in your browser — screenshots of dashboards, contracts, or private chats never leave your device. It is a natural fit for assembling UI screenshots into a review document, turning chart exports into a report appendix, or converting a set of slides saved as PNGs back into one paginated file.

Questions

Does PNG transparency survive in the PDF?

Yes. The alpha channel is carried into the PDF as a soft mask, so transparent regions stay transparent in the file and render over the page's white background in virtually every viewer.

Is the conversion lossless?

For 8-bit PNGs — virtually every screenshot and export — yes: every pixel value survives exactly, and there is no quality slider because there is nothing to trade away. A rare 16-bit PNG is reduced to 8 bits per channel, and the tool shows a notice when that happens.

Why is the PDF a different size than my PNG files?

The same pixels are stored under PDF's own Flate compression rather than PNG's container, so the total can come out a little smaller or larger. The pixels themselves are unchanged.

Can I control where the image sits on the page?

The image is always centered. On A4 and Letter it sits inside a 40-point margin, scaled down to fit but never enlarged; choose 'Fit' to make each page exactly the size of its image instead.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. Transmute processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device — there is no server, no upload, no cloud processing.
