Questions
How do I specify which pages to extract?
Click individual page thumbnails to select them, or type a range like '1-3, 5, 8-10' in the text input. Selected pages are extracted into a new PDF.
Can I split a PDF into individual pages?
Yes. Select all pages and each will be included. For truly separate files per page, you can run the tool multiple times or select one page at a time.
Are bookmarks and metadata preserved?
The extracted file keeps the document title and author. Bookmarks are not carried over — the pages are copied into a fresh document, so the outline tree is rebuilt empty. Page-level links and annotations travel with their pages.
Why do the thumbnails stop after page 50?
Only the first 50 pages are rendered as thumbnails, to keep long documents from stalling the page. Every page is still selectable — type a range like 51-60 in the range field and it works exactly the same.
If I type 5, 1, 3 — do the pages come out in that order?
No. Extracted pages always keep the order they had in the original document — the selection is sorted before extraction, and the range field normalizes what you typed (3, 1, 2 becomes 1-3). To change the sequence itself, run the result through Reorder PDF Pages.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Transmute processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device — there is no server, no upload, no cloud processing.
